One killed when truck drives off I-385 in Greenville County, troopers say – WYFF4 Greenville


One person was killed in a crash on Interstate 385 Saturday.Trooper Joe Hovis, with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, said it happened on I-385 near mile marker 31.Hovis said they received a call about the collision just before 7 a.m., but they do not know the exact time the collision occurred.Mauldin Fire Department crews discovered the vehicle, while on the scene of an unrelated motor vehicle collision, according to the Greenville County Coroner’s Office.A 1999 Chevy pickup truck was headed north on I-385 when the driver went off the right side of the roadway and down an embankment, where they struck a guardrail, Hovis said.The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the truck.The driver died at the scene.The coroner identified the victim as Tyrone Smoot, 56, of West Columbia.
