Sun Country Airlines has announced it is launching nonstop service from Milwaukee’s Mitchell International Airport.The service was announced Tuesday morning at the airport.Sun Country will fly nonstop from Milwaukee to Minneapolis-St. Paul, Las Vegas, Fort Myers, Phoenix and Cancun.The first flights will begin Aug. 26 for Minneapolis-St. Paul and Las Vegas.Tickets went on sale Tuesday.Online fares started at $79 one way.Sun Country said there would be introductory fares for as low as $39 one way.Flights to Fort Myers begin Dec. 15 while flights to Phoenix begin Dec. 17 and Dec. 18 to Cancun.Sun Country is known as an ultra-low-cost airline.”We know folks are excited to resume traveling, and we’re happy to be able to offer them the opportunity to travel to these destinations with us,” Sun Country Airlines Chief Revenue Officer Grant Whitney said. “We’re proud to bring our brand of convenient, affordable travel to Milwaukee. The airline and airport are expecting travel to increase as more travelers receive the COVID-19 vaccine. “The last year has thrown a wrench into a lot of those plans, but what’s obvious now is that households have been saving in the last year, they’re frustrated, and they’re ready to get out.
